MONTENEGRO BECOMES 44TH PARTY TO THE AARHUS CONVENTION

Montenegro is the ninth country to accede to the 1998 environmental democracy treaty

CONVENTION ON ACCESS TO INFORMATION, PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN DECISION-MAKING AND ACCESS TO JUSTICE IN ENVIRONMENTAL MATTERS

AARHUS, DENMARK, 25 JUNE 1998

MONTENEGRO: ACCESSION

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, acting in his capacity as depositary, communicates the following:

The above action was effected on 2 November 2009.

The Convention will enter into force for Montenegro on 31 January 2010 in accordance with its article 20 (3) which reads as follows:  

"For each State or organization referred to in article 17 which ratifies, accepts or approves this Convention or accedes thereto after the deposit of the sixteenth instrument of ratification,  acceptance, approval or accession, this Convention shall enter into force on the ninetieth day after the date of deposit by such State or organization of its instrument of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession."
